Posted on Tue, 6 Sep 2016
Question: This is with reference to my daughter Ojaswi XXXXXXX who is 1.5 years old . She has got running nose and fever since yesterday night because I am having cold for last 2-3 days. Ojaswi had got fever and running nose around 2 weeks back as well and our Child Specialist doctor had prescribed her Maxtra P Syrup (to be taken 5 ml for 3 times a day for 5 days).
Given that she has taken the 5 day course around 2 weeks back only, can we repeat the same now as well?

Brief Answer:
It can be given for symptomatic relief if needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi
I understand your concerns but don't worry. Most likely reason for such symptoms in toddlers is self limiting viral infection which usually improves with symptomatic management in a few days.

Syp. Maxtra P is for symptomatic relief and do not require a full course of 5 days as in case of antibiotics. Also, I would recommend you to give Syp. Maxtra and Syp. Paracetamol seperately as per symptoms instead of combination drug.

So, start with Syp. Maxtra ( 2.5 ml thrice daily) if she has bothersome running nose and cold. Stop it once the symptoms improve. If symptoms are mild then you may even avoid it.

Give Syp. Paracetamol (as per her body weight) for fever spikes( more than 100'F) . You may repeat the dose after 6-8 hours if fever persists or recurs.

Ensure good hydration and diet. Hopefully it will be of help.

Take care
