Question: hello. i am a 60 year old female. I was in XXXXXXX state for a week and returned to florida last Monday when I began coughing. I have had a fever on and off everyday -- higher at night since last Monday.
my upper chest hurts...I have sinus pain but not any discharge to speak of....taking mucinex what do I have

Thanks for the query

From the history you have given me it looks like you have a respiratory tract infection.That fact that you have pain in the sinuses could mean that you have a sinus infection as well. Here is what you should do


1. Steam inhalations for about 5 minutes three times a day to de clog the sinuses
2. Avoid cold food and beverages till you are better
3. Make sure you take only warm food
4. Avoid milk and milk products
5. Tab levocetrizine twice daily should bring down the cough
6. Since it has been a week, I recommend starting an antibiotic like Tab Amox with clavulunate three times a day for 5 days
7. Please approach your GP for an x ray to rule out pneumonia
