Suggest Treatment For Redness, Pain And Swelling In The Fingers

default
Posted on Sat, 21 Jan 2017
Question: The tip of my thumb, pad-side and further down to the base, is swollen and slightly dusky but otherwise red. Slightly warm and slightly painful. Symptoms were noticed this morning. Sensitivity to warm water. No broken skin, except recent healed fissures at tip of my thumb due to cold weather (yes, I wear gloves. I do have Raynaud's but my other fingers are not affected, nor anything on my other hand).

Brief Answer:
Either chill blain or bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
According to your complaints it could be either chill blain due to cold weather or some bacterial infection of the thumb.
I would recommend you to keep it warm and wear woollen gloves.
Besides this take anti inflammatory medicines like tablet ibuprofen and apply topical antibiotic like neosporin ointment or fusidic acid cream on the affected areas twice daily.

Dr Asmeet
