Suggest Treatment For Red Shiny Spots In Genital Area

default
Posted on Wed, 25 Nov 2015
Question: I get red, shiny, burning tender areas on the skin in the deep creases between pubic area and upper thighs. They often will be quite large and more frontal. Or they can show up more toward the back of the pubic area. They come and go. I have changed washing detergent for my cotton underwear. I sometimes use a light coating of Balenol lotion. I have tried various mild soaps to shower with. I have changed to panty liners that have no toxic ingredients. I am 76 years and in fairly good health. I have had this condition for over a year. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you. Email is YYYY@YYYY

Brief Answer:
intertrigo,antifungal powder.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for writing to health care magic.I can understand your concern.

It seems you are probably having intertrigo.

Thigh and pubic areas are often under constant friction during walking, cycling etc. This leads to irritation and secondary infection of skin with fungus(yeast) and bacteria leading to rashes and burning.

It will be important to keep area as dry as possible.A good antifungal powder like candid applied two to three times daily will be helpful.Avoid tight fitting pants as far as possible. This will minimize friction.

It will be better if you avoid vaseline and balenol lotionas they keep area moist.

If there is severe burning you may apply mild steroid cream like cortisone.

I hope this will help you.In case of any concern i will be happy to help you.Take care.
