Suggest Treatment For Red Rashes On Face

default
Posted on Wed, 21 Oct 2015
Question: My daughter is 15, she has increasingly recurring periods of a red rash spreading across her face, with a burning sensation, and symptoms of stomach pains, joint pains and headaches are always part of it as well. This has been going on since January. The facial redness and pain lasts for about a week and then disappears, but the episode come closer and closer together and she only has two days of reprieve now. She has become photosensitive and anything seems to trigger this. Wind, sun, stress and tiredness. I have been to many doctors but no one seems to come up with an answer.

Brief Answer:
Systemic lupus erythematosis (SLE) can be likely diagnosis

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I have gone through your question and understand your concerns. The presentation of your daughter can be due to inflammatory disease esp. SLE, allergies or photo sensitivity. The association with joint pains, stomach pains and headaches are more in favour of Inflammatory disease.

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic inflammatory disease that has protean manifestations and follows a relapsing and remitting course. More than 90% of cases of SLE occur in women, frequently starting at adolescent age.

I would recommend you to visit a rheumatologist for complete examination and required work up. They will advise you for the following lab work up if your daughter shows clinical signs of inflammatory disease:

-Complete blood count (CBC) with differential
-Serum creatinine
-Urinalysis with microscopy
-Erythrocyte sedimentation rate (ESR) or C-reactive protein (CRP)
-Complement levels
-Liver function tests
-Creatine kinase assay
-Spot protein/spot creatinine ratio
-ANA
-ENA PANEL IF ANA ABNORMAL
- radiological assessment for joint pains, headache, stomach pains if required after clinical examination
The treatment includes good sun protection, monoclonal antibodies and steroids.

You may upload the reports for my reference so that I may help you out in the best possible way. Also, upload her skin lesions images for my reference.

Take care
