Suggest Treatment For Red Itchy Patches On Skins Of Both The Legs

default
Posted on Fri, 29 May 2015
Question: Hi, I have several very itchy patches on my skins of both legs that look like there is a red line under the skin that connects the red itchy patches. My right leg has more of the rash than my left leg, but it is in the exact same spot on each leg. I have had them since about January. It gets slightly better, then I touch the spot and it immediately begins to burn and itch. It is slightly raised and has sections (for lack of a better word), is very red at times, then when starts to get a little better is is slightly dry on top.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, Welcome to HealthcareMagic,

It looks like Erythema ab igne or Livido reticularis as per description written by you.
Have you noticed that you are getting regular exposure of low heat on that part of hand?
As erythema ab igne occurs most commonly due to regular exposure of low heat. It is also a classical finding in chronic pancreatitis or hypothyroidism.
In livido reticularis discoloration is due to swelling of venules as capillary block occurs due to thrombi. biopsy of skin is needed to diagnose this.

I would like to advise you to send clinical picture to us for proper diagnosis.
There is a feature to upload the image by yourself on the right side of this query page. You may utilize that. Alternatively, you can mail it to YYYY@YYYY with subject line as "ATTN: Dr. Shahid Hassan".
Hope this is helpful.
