Suggest Treatment For Red Bumps On The Penis Tip

default
Posted on Mon, 10 Aug 2015
Question: Having Red Bumps / Blotches on tip of penis along with many other bumps on shaft of penis which kind of look in grown hairs, but are not... They are not very painful.. only when contacted or rubbed against pants. I am also suffering from other symptoms which may be related ( swollen lymph node under jaw, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and fever. My Primary Care Doctor was 95% sure it was not herpes, and that it would go away, but has not yet.. and is not getting any better after 5 days.

Brief Answer:
Seems like genital herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us

I have taken note of your query and I have also reviewed the Images.

I can see multiple discrete erosions in these images.
The location i.e genitalia (glans and shaft of penis) and the clinical picture does make me suspect genital herpes and I would want to test for it for sure.
Some of these erosions show yellowish diacharge on floor which suggests secondary bacterial infection
I would suggest that you take up a test for herpes. A swab test from one of these erosions for HSV PCR would be conclusive.

I would also want to know whether are you sexual active? If yes, with single or multiple sexual partners? When was your last sexual contact?

Yes.. I am sexually active. I did have a new recent partner.. within last 2 months.. typically with single partners.. but there have been many within the last year.

Brief Answer:
Very likely that this is herpes

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

I would keep genita herpes as a very likely possibility and I would certainly want you to test for it for a confirmatory diagnosis.
A PCR for HSV is sensitive and specific for herpes and you can take up this by swab testing one of the sores.

Ok.. I took a swab test yesterday... so waiting for results from that along with a blood test.. I started taking Acyclovir yesterday.. in case it is herpes.. is this the best drug for herpes? If it is someone else.. should I be taking anything else? I really want these legions gone asap!

Brief Answer:
Acyclovir is fine

Detailed Answer:
Hi.

Acyclovir is fine.
Let me know the results of swab test and blood test as soon as it becomes available. Swab test would be more accurate at this stage however circulating antibodies against Hsv take time to appear and therefore a blood test too soon after infection may be false negative.
