Brief Answer:
If the infections are too frequent, tonsillar surgery might need to be done

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

Such symptoms are usually caused due to certain viral infections although certain bacteria like Streptococcus could also cause similar ailments. Irrespective of use of antibiotics, such infections may last for 7-10 days. Some children are more prone to such infections although the propensity comes down with increase in age. The tonsils are lymphoid organs and have a role to play in this regard. If such infections occur too frequently, surgery of the tonsils might need to be considered. You may discuss about the requirement of the same with a ENT specialist.

The stomach pains are probably unrelated.

I would suggest you to get a complete blood count and C-Reactive Protein (CRP) level checked. Please revert with the reports and I shall guide you further.

Hope that helps.

Brief Answer:
The reports do not indicate presence of any bacterial infection

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back.

I have gone through the attached reports. It does not indicate the presence of any bacterial infection. In that case I would not worry. You will have to be patient. It is just a propensity of catching cold and it will come down with increase in age. Only if the episodes are too frequent, you will need to discuss with your doctor about the requirement of tonsillar surgery.

Thank you Dr.
Appreciate your quick response!

That's certainly a relief that he is doesn't indicate presence of bacterial infection, but what would be the cause of frequent illness/fever?

At times he runs quite high fever which is certainly a concern for us, provided we are certain that it's just normal fever and not related to tonsil's etc, it is a concern for us.

Would you recommend any other test or anything to rule out anything else?
Would you advise any medication for tonsils?
Would you advise any precautions which needs our attention, we already taking care of cold items and some basic preventive measures which we are aware of.

Thank you in advance for your patience and help!

Brief Answer:
Suggestion to avoid catching cold. Thats all.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back again.

It is likely to be due to a viral infection. It can be associated with high rise of temperature. It is the same normal fever that we always suffer from. The immunity for the same is rendered by the tonsils. So, if the tonsils get inflamed, the immunity drops and such an infection occurs.

I do not think that any tests are required for the same.
For the tonsils, I would simply suggest gurgling with lukewarm water. No medicines.
The precaution to take is to avoid catching cold. Nothing specific.

Hope that helps.
