Suggest Treatment For Recurring Bronchitis When Diagnosed With Pleurisy

default
Posted on Tue, 8 Sep 2015
Question: I was diagnosed with pleurisy 9 days ago and it felt like it went away (but not totally). Woke up today feeling like the first day again with pain on the same eighth side. Initial X-ray was clear. Was also diagnosed with bronchitis during that visit but since then all of the bronchitis symptoms have cleared. Dr proscribed me a 5 day zpak, inhaler, and an oral steroid. The steroid and zpak were finished 4 days ago. Why did it come back and what should I do? Continue the inhaler?

Brief Answer:
Better to get done repeat chest x ray.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for your question on Health Care Magic.
I can understand your concern.
Lung infection is the most common cause for pleurisy.
And it takes almost 2-3 weeks for complete resolution of infection. So symptoms of pleurisy also lasts for 2-3 weeks.
Since you are having reappearance of symptoms, better to get done chest x ray first to rule out lung infection.
Ideally, antibiotics should be taken for atleast 10 days in lung infection.
So better to consult your doctor again and discuss all these. You may need to continue antibiotics and inhaler for 10-15 days.
Application of warm water pad on affected areas is also helpful in pain relief.
Hope I have solved your query.
I will be happy to help you further.
Wish you good health. Thanks.
