Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Sinus Infections

default
Posted on Thu, 12 Jan 2017
Question: I seem to have several (3-4) sinus infections each year. I'm 69 and in pretty good health. Is there something I should be doing to "prevent" this in the future. When this hits, it put me down for several days and the drainage is awful.

Brief Answer:
Steam inhalation should provide relief.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

The sinuses are air pockets in different parts of the skull. The outlet of these sinuses often get blocked due to thickened mucus thus leading to the collection of secretions inside, thus leading to sinus infections. Steam inhalation would help in opening up of the sinuses and would thus help in prevention of such infections.

During such episodes, it would be a good idea to take some antiallergic like cetirizine alongside. Montair FX (monteleukast + fexofenadine) is a better drug but is a prescription medicine.
