Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Corn On Left Foot

default
Posted on Mon, 12 Jan 2015
Question: Hi Doctor,

I am writing this query on behalf of my mom. She is facing a problem from quite a long time now. She has got a corn in her left foot. Its like a round pattern skin has bulged out of the flat surface of the foot just below the fingers. Its been more than a year that she has this problem. She has operated and removed the bulged part twice but it occurs again after 4 to 5 months.

Can you please suggest what treatment should be taken for the permanent cure of this problem ? Any specialist that we should consider ?

Brief Answer:
Complete removal of the corn is required.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for the query.

In the description, you have mentioned that the bulged part of the corn was removed twice and it has recurred. This means only the superficial part was removed. Please correct me, If I am wrong.

A corn is difficult to be cured permanently and is known to recur but the treatment would be to remove it from root. That means the base too has to be removed. After removal of the corn, the area needs to be treated with salicylic acid drops to kill any extra tissue if left over inside.

Once the corn is removed then the foot has to be taken to avoid any injuries by using soft and comfortable foot wear and regular scrubbing of the sole.

You should see a General surgeon or a Podiatrist (who specialises in any diseases of foot).

Hope this answers your query. If any further clarifications, will be happy to help.

Regards.
