Suggest Treatment For Recurrent Bartholin's Abscesses

default
Posted on Mon, 3 Nov 2014
Question: Hello,

I have had recurrent bartholins abscesses operated on since September 2013 a number of times. I had a bartholins gland excision September 8th 2014, I had complications from this with a large haematoma that I had to go back into surgery again for. Unfortunately, I still have a large lump where bartholins cysts and abscesses usually form. It's so painful I can't sit. It's been present for over a month now and the consultant said its not a haematoma but a chronic bartholins abscess that currently isntly at a head. It grows in size, sometimes to an egg and some other times it can be felt as a smaller quail egg. He thinks he left part of the gland behind and it's formed another abscess. Can chronic abscesses grow and then decrease and the. Grow? I find when I stand up for long periods of times it gets bigger.

Brief Answer:
It may be a recurrence of Bartholiniti's abscess

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear and thanks for your query.

I understand your concern .

As you describe it may be a recurrent Bartholiniti's abscess because recurrences are very common if your surgeon haven't done marsupialization or to widen the cut to about 1 cm.
A few stitches are then used to stitch the inside lining of the cyst to the overlying skin.
This then creates a small new permanent opening for fluid to drain out of the gland.
If this procedure isn't made as I describe, it may complicate.
Getting bigger and small, may be related to your position.

Get an per vagina examination by your doctor because you may need for a course of A/B therapy(particularly the use of broad-spectrum antibiotics).

Have Sitz baths for 3 to 4 times per day.

Hi,

Thanks for your reply. I had marsupilaisation on it last October and it didn't work. I then had an abscess packed and sinus tract lay open in march and I had the gland removed this September. He said he could have left a part of the gland behind and it's a chronic abscess . I've had so many antibiotics and none of them have worked over the past year, despite having culture positive swabs and intra venous antibiotics it just keeps happening. Is it possible for abscesses to grow and get a bit smaller and then grow again? Mine changes size and increases and decreases all the time.

Brief Answer:
It may be possible .

Detailed Answer:
Hi dear again .

It may be possible to grow and decrease by your position because if it is chronic abscess it has small vessels and by changing your position ,change and the blood flow ,sometimes it increases and sometimes it decreases causing abscess increase and decrease its volume .

As I said above have Sitz baths and pain killer when you have more pain until the body adapts with this pain and this mass.

HAVE A NICE DAY AND ALL THE BEST
