Suggest Treatment For Rashes On Skin After Surgery

default
Posted on Thu, 27 Aug 2015
Question: Hello my husband is suffering with some type of allergic reaction to something he is eating. We know that because he had major surgery for which he had to fast ( only clear liquids) for almost a week-- and his rash totally disappeared. Now he is back on a regular diet and he is covered in what looks like bug bites, but is in fact a rash. We are making an appointment with an allergist but what should he avoid until we see the doctor for some possible relief?

Brief Answer:
could be anything, consider a food diary

Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic

A person can be allergic to any food or drink , this would include fruits and vegetables as well.
He may be allergic to one thing only or multiple items.

I had one patient who was allergic to banana only according to her allergy tests but another , a child, , who was allergic to wheat , dairy, eggs.
It could be anything.

If he could use foods/drinks for a few days that he might believe would likely be safe along with an oral antihistamine and steroid cream (hydrocortisone) to the affected areas, so that the rash can improve.

After there is some improvement, he should consider a food diary. Make a note of every food and drink used and note if there is any reaction.
It can sometimes take a few days for a reaction to occur, usually up to 3.

Allergy testing can be in the form of a blood test or skin prick testing. Your GP may be able to refer you to a lab or send a sample of blood off to a lab for testing if you cannot get an early allergist appointment.

I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
