Brief Answer: Irritant contact Dermatitis; Dont be scared. Detailed Answer: Hi there. I have seen the attached photos & it does look like your scrotum is inflamed. On first impressions, it appears like an irritant contact dermatitis. I trust it is itchy/painful/burning? If so, has there been any contact with any possible irritant including lubricants, soaps, gels, condoms etc. any known past allergies? There is nothing to be scared about. Please use a 1% hydrocortisone cream liberally over the region & the irritation & redness should disappear in 24-48 hrs. Good Luck & Godspeed! Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD

There is certainly a slight itching sensation. I have had contact with latex condoms and other lubricants within the last week. Thank you for quick reply. In the chance the problem is bot fixed by the medication, are there any other possibilities? Do you feel certain this is NOT the early stages of an STD? Again, thank you so much for your reply

Brief Answer: 1% hydrocortisone cream & oral antihistamine Detailed Answer: Hey there XXXXXXX You caught me just as I was going to call it a night in my part of the world but I felt you needed some urgent 'fix'. Nope...I don't think this is an STD of sorts. It definitely appears & now sounds like an irritant contact dermatitis & like I said, avoid all irritants & use the cream suggested. It should be better in 24 hours; You may couple it with an antihistamine. If there still lurks a fear of doubt, you may do well to take a single 1 gm dose of an antibiotic called Azithromycin & a single 150mg dose of an antifungal called Fluconazole. Both these to my mind would require a prescription & hence perhaps prudent to go with the cream I suggested which can be got as an OTC (over the counter) product. Good Luck & wish you quick relief & do hope the advice is spot on! :) Dr Praveen Rodrigues MD
