Suggest Treatment For Puerperal Psychosis
Question: Hi,
I have been blessed with a baby boy last month. Post delivery my wife, has developed difficulty in speaking and feels that she has a rolling tounge and feels very concious about her face movements including tounge and mouth.
She has been taking very less sleep last one month ( 2-3 hours average ) and that too with breaks. We have another daughter ( 8 yrs ), whom she is taking care of which keeps her busy during the day. At night she is taking care of the son as he keeps awake during nights.

Post partum psychosis requires family support. You must take her to a psychiatrist for counselling.
She needs to start on antidepressants and antipsychotics which will help her. As these are prescription drugs, you will need to consult your psychiatrist.

Hi Dr,
I checked about post partum psychosis on internet ( no other source as such by now ) and currently could not see any such symptoms as stated in the articles. The patient ( my wife ) is not under any depresssion and there is no change in any behaviour. Please let me know if we can speak on this.

I am sorry if my previous reply offended you. I did not mean your wife is suffering with psychosis. Post partum psychosis present with wide range of symptoms. Given that her symptoms developed almost immediately after delivery and these delusions (feeling of rolling tongue; facial movements) appearance, I will keep post partum psychological illness as a possibility. Off course I will insist she visits her gynecologist and discuss her symptoms; the earliest, the better.
Any neurological disturbance immediately following delivery has to be investigated and thus, I feel its mandatory for you to seek help. I am available for further discussion.
