Question: Dear Sir,
I am having Pterygium in my left eye. The pterygium is onto cornea also. It is from last 15 years. I am travelling to dubai tomorrow. I just read online that upon arrival in dubai they generally do iris scan of eye for immigration.

I am bit worried as my iris is covered with pterygium. I am worried that it can cause problem to them while carrying iris scan.

I do not want to get in any kind of unnecessary problem. So I wanted to know whether it will create any trouble while carrying out iris scan.

Brief Answer:
No trouble will occur, no need to worry.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Welcome to Health care Magic

It seems from the history that you are having pterygium in left eye and it has encroached the cornea. You are worried about the iris scan and effect of this pterygium on the iris scan.
No need to worry this will not cause any problem.

I will explain this in detail.
Iris scan are one of the most accurate biometric systems and are now widely used for personal identification just like thumb prints. It is infact far more superior to thumb print impression. This accuracy is because of presence of patterns on iris which are unique for each individual.
Hence iris scan is used for security purposes in banking sector and at air ports. It is used at many air ports world wide including United Arab Emirates.
The corneal problems will not affect the iris scan but progressive diseases of the iris like inflammations of iris called as iritis, surgeries on iris which disturb the pattern of iris affect the iris scan. Since you are not having any iris disease, no need to worry.

Hence no need to worry regarding this problem.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you

Thanks a lot for your answer.

But I wanted to ask that whiteness I.e. Pterygium is on iris of the eye due to which the iris is covered by whiteness of pterygium and iris is not clearly visible.

Will it create any problem.

Brief Answer:
This will not create any problem.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank you for the follow up

The cameras used for iris scan use the monochromatic infrared light which usually overcomes the most of the obstrucles. The image acquired is processed by high technology which overcomes opacities or reflections in the image and finally the image is generated and this image is compared each time.
During imaging the central portion of the cornea is used to acquire image hence a whiteness in the periphery will not have any problem.

Hence no problem will occur, hence no need to worry.

Hope I have answered your question and the information is helpful to you.

Thank you
