Brief Answer:
Psoriasis is chronic, immune mediated skin ds; effective Rx is available

Detailed Answer:
Hello. Thank you for writing to us.

I have taken note of your query and I wish to help you in the best possible way.

Psoriasis is a chronic, immune mediated, skin disease. Psoriasis may recur after seemingly complete cure.

Psoriasis is in general more common in winters and less common in summers as sun has a beneficial effect on psoriasis.

It is characterized by scaly, red, well defined plaques/ patches on various body sites. The patches are usually itchy.

Almost any part of the body can be involved with psoriatic patches however, areas of body most commonly involved with psoriasis are scalp, knee, elbow, shins, legs, shins, arms, hands and feet etc.

Treatment of psoriasis is guided by severity and extent of involvement. Effective treatment options are available and includes topical as well as systemic.

-Emollients/ Moisturizers are an important part of treatment of psoriasis.

-Topical treatment options include potent topical Steroids with or without Salicylic acid, available as ointment/ lotions/ shampoo for scalp and body involvement.

-Topical Vitamin D Analogues like Calcipotriol, Calcipotriene, Calcitriol are alternatives to topical steroids and are available as lotions/ ointments for scalp and body involvement.

-Systemic treatment options include Methotrexate, Phototherapy, Cyclosporin etc.

-For scalp psoriasis, coal tar+salicylic based shampoo along topical steroid+salicylic acid lotions are usually effective.

For limited skin involvement, topical treatment alone suffices , however, for extensive skin involvement (> 20% BSA), systemic treatment is usually combined with topical treatment.

-I would like to know from you whether, is he on any treatment? If yes, what all.
-Can you upload a few Images of the affected skin?

Regards
