Question: I HAD MY PITUITARY GLAND EXTRACTED COMPLETELY FOR MACRO ADENOMA TWENTY YEARS BACK. I AM ON HORMONE REPLACEMENT THERAPY AND TAKE NUMEROUS MEDICATIONS (20 TABLETS A DAY) LIKE
A. THYROXINE [ 150 MG)
B. STEROID (HYDRO CORTIZONE - 10 + 10 MG)
C. ECOSPORIN 75 MG
D. ROSUVASTATIN 10 MG
E. CETRIZINE
F. SANDOCAL
G. GLIMEPIRIDE 2 MG
H. METFORMIN 1 GM (TWICE A DAY)
I. IRON CAPLULE
J. MINIRIN SPRAY (AT BEDTIME)
K. TESTOVIRON DEPOT INJ. (ONCE A MONTH)
L. NEUROBION INJ (ONCE A MONTH)

I AM NOW SUFFERING FROM PRICKING PAIN IN THE BOTH SINCE ONE MONTH. I WAS ADVISED BY MY GENERAL PHYSICIAN TO TAKE VITAMIN SUPPLEMENTS. I AM NOT GETTING ANY RELIEF FROM THE PAIN. MY SLEEP IS GETTING DISTURBED AND I AM FEELING VERY TIRED.

KINDLY SUGGEST A REMEDY FOR THE ABOVE AILMENT.

Dear Sir,

In an individual taking
1. STEROID (HYDRO CORTIZONE - 10 + 10 MG)
2. GLIMEPIRIDE 2 MG
3. METFORMIN 1 GM (TWICE A DAY)
The most common cause of pricking pain in both Feet is Diabetic Neuropathy

How to Confirm : By Doing a Test Called Nerve Conduction Test

How to Treat : The Best way to Treat Diabetic Nerve Pain involves two components
1. Treating Diabetes and Keeping Blood Sugar under Control
2. Treating Nerve Pain

(I) Treating Diabetes and Keeping Blood Sugar under Control

This involves
1. Walking for Minimum 45 minutes a day
2. Strict Diet Control
3. If Needed, Tablets
4. If Needed, Insulin

Of this, you are already taking tablets.
You now need to do a test called HbA1c to see whether your diabetes is under control. If that is less that 6, there is no need to worry. If that is more than 6, you may have to increase the tablets or start insulin or change diet

(II) Treating Nerve Pains
This is through few drugs
1. Drugs which reduce / stop Neuropathic Pain : Gabapentin, Pregabalin, Amitriptyline etc
2. Drugs which help in regeneration of nerves : Vitamins (and active forms of Vitamins, Fatty Acids etc)

To Summarise
You need to do the following tests
1. Nerve Conduction Study
2. HbA1c

Based on that you have to
1. Have better control of your diabetes
2. Treat the Pricking pain
