Suggest Treatment For Presence Of Fluid In Ear

default
Posted on Thu, 9 Jul 2015
Question: Good evening. I have been feeling a sense of fluid rushing through the area around my ears and sometimes upper neck when standing from laying down or sitting or when walking up stairs. I sometimes have a concurrent weird sensation around the left side of my chest. Is this common?
By the way, I am a 53 year old woman with intermittent high blood pressure and have surgically induced hypothyroidism.

Brief Answer:
may be fluid in the ears

Detailed Answer:
Hi and welcome to healthcaremagic,

From the symptoms that you described it looks like you have fluid in the ear. It can happen due to Eustachian tube block. The eustachian tube connects the nose to the ear and it is important in regulating air pressure in the ear.

Commonest causes for tube block is infections or allergies in the nose. You have to see a doctor to confirm the diagnosis. Till then you can take decongestant nose drops like otrivin (oxymetazoline). These drops open your Eustachian tubes. Instill 3 drops in each nostril 3 times a day and follow it up with steam inhalation for 5 days. You can also try doing valsalva exercise. The details of which are available on YouTube.

Remember to drink plenty of fluids and avoid air conditioning.

The sensation in the chest has nothing to do the feeling you have in your ears. Please consult a physician for the chest complaints.

Feel free to follow up,
