Question: I have not had a period in 3 years and today I felt a sharp stabbing pain and saw blood- can my period have returned?

Hi,

Thanks for writing to us.

In my opinion, it may not be yours, period.
You did not get your menstrual periods since last 3 yrs. So it is most probable postmenopausal bleeding.

There can be many causes for such a bleed. You should go for endometrial biopsy, pap smear and transvaginal ultrasound rule out ominous causes like endometrial cancer, cervical cancer and other causes of postmenopausal bleeding.

So first you should find out the cause and then took treatment accordingly.

Thus in my opinion you should consult a gynecologist and get your examination and investigations done.
