Posted on Fri, 21 Apr 2017
Question: I am having extreme anxiety and can't seem to concentrate on anything. I run an office but my inability to concentrate and finish things (cause everything is half way done) is bringing me not only problems at work but at home. Foe example, I get to my office and say ok let me do the bank recsonciliations, but then 30 min
later I am on the emails and not sure why or how I got there. I'm scattered brain and lately staying still or even sleeping through the night is almost non existent. I am extremely overweight but am healthy other wise. I do not have cholesterol, diabetes or anything else. What should I do?

1. How long the problem is there ? I think I've always had the problem since I've always felt like a "procrastinator". Most of the time is due to lack of concentration. I have noticed the problem increasing more so in the past 6 months. I can't seem to be able to even pray cause my mind wonders to 50 other things so I don't even finish that.

2. How it was stated? It is progressive over time? It has progressed. I know I'm getting older so I'm sure that plays a part.

3. Do you snore? Yes, some nights I do. Not always according to my husband.

4. How long the sleep problem is there? It seems to increase depending on how many things I didn't get done at work. I get an anxiety attack and wake up thinking all that needs to be done.

5. What kind of thoughts you get when you are not able to sleep? Try to read self help books on being more organized, or play games. Anything to get my mind thinking of things I can control at that moment.

6. Do you have hyperactivity either now or in past ? I do get burst but lately it's more fidgeting, cant seem to be able to de-stress and allow my brain to rest.

7. Your body weight and height? Well I have gained an enormous amount. I am 185 and am 5'0. I've gained 60 lbs in a year! I blame it on the wine since sometimes it's the only thing that relaxes me enough to allow me to fall asleep.

8. Any other information you feel is relevant. I do not take any medications. My last exam by a doctor was about 6 months ago and all my blood work and all else got better. I just didn't really discuss this since I felt the doctor was in a hurry. I don't really go to doctors often.

Brief Answer:
I think it is anxiety

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for follow up.

I have gone through the provided answers and of the opinion that you are dealing with anxiety disorder. I understand you prefer not to go to doctor but check for atleast thyroid if not done. The thyroid can explain both anxiety as well as weight gain.

In case thyroid has already been evaluated and nothing was found abnormal than we need to treat it as anxiety disorder. In my opinion use of SSRI such as Prozac is warranted in dose range of 20-40 mg per day.

I hope this answers you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
