default
Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: I have been having "pinching" pains in my abdomen with no specific area, some days its on the right sometimes on the left some days it goes across my whole stomach. I am passing gas more than normal and sometimes it increases the pain. It sometimes is so bad it wakes me from a dead sleep. I cannot pinpoint food I am eating that is causing it. Sometimes its dairy, or sugar or chicken or bread but nothing consistant. Any suggestions?

Brief Answer:
Stomach/cholecyst/hormonal changes to consider

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

The "pinching" pains you feel in your abdomen with no specific area associated with passing gas more than normal is indicative for bowel problems:
- infection: candida (especially if you have been using antibiotics recently); intestinal parasites
- stomach problems: gastritis, GERD (if you also feel heartburn especially after eating)
- cholecyst problems: sludge, inflammation, stones
- hormonal changes at your age (peri/menopause)

Apart blood work, I advise to run :
- abdominal ultrasound
- examination of stool for ova/parasites
- culture of stool
- colonoscopy
- upper endoscopy

If nothing will be found related to GI tract, neurological examination is then advised together with evaluation of vertebral spine for possible changes.

Meanwhile, I advise to:
- eat often, small portions, and chew up slowly
- avoid carbonated drinks
- avoid spicy/chilly/sugary foods and additives
- be more physically involved
- take antacids and simethicone for bloating

Hope it helped!
