default
Posted on Mon, 10 Nov 2014
Question: Hi, I had what I thought was a pimple growing inside my nose. It was very painful. Now I have a big red bump on the outside of my nose that oozes white stuff every time I put lotion on it and it won't go away. Now it has scabbed, sometimes the outside of the bump turns white and still oozes white stuff. This has been going on for about 2 weeks. Can you please help?

Brief Answer:
Pustule

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic. Dr. Ganesh.

1.It looks like pustule with collection of pus with in ( Bacteria / infective material ), In this case first thing is it has a life span of some where around 7 - 10 days, leave it alone for the time.

2.Never squeeze, compress, scratch the pimple / pustule - in that way you will cause new infection and allow the infection to move to deeper layer of the skin.

3.In this case i would recommend to maintain local hygiene, clean the area with antiseptic liquid and apply anti inflammatory cream over the area, that will ease of soon.

4.Do not poke too early. Wait until your pimple has a firm white head. That means the pus is close to the surface and ready to be drained - Using your fingers, or a cotton swab, softly squeeze the pimple. Press around (not on) the white tip of the zit. If the pus doesn't come out easily, the pimple isn't ready to be popped. Stop don't proceed. ( this thing if you don't do also it will burst on its own when matures - so leave it alone)

5.Sinece it is scabbed - please clean and dry with antiseptic liquid, apply cream - that should help.
Finally if it is not responding - a course of antibiotic will be needed.

Good luck.

Thank you for the response. I have a couple of things I want to follow up on. I don't think it will ever become a white head because there is a big scab in the middle of it. A white liquid oozes out around the scab. I squeezed it today because it looked like it was turning white again and more white stuff and a fair amount of blood came out. Any other recommendations based on this? Thank You.

I've been on Amoxicillin for 2 days and it is getting worse. It is bigger than it has ever been. It was white around outside today and when I blew my nose it popped and leaked white stuff and blood. It is the biggest and worst it has ever looked. What should I do?

Brief Answer:
Aseptic care needed.

Detailed Answer:
welcome back.

Amoxicillin will not make any worse generally, you need to take a course of 5 days.

Mean while take good aseptic conditions and clean the area with betadine lotion and apply Neosporin (neo-bac-polym) topical power or any thing of similar combination will help.

If feel not responding - you may need to visit clinic for medical care.

Thank you
wish you good health.
