Question: I have had a vaginal infection for two months. Have taken Two rounds of Diflucan and prescription vaginal cream. It gets somewhat better but never goes completely away. What can this be?

Brief Answer:
Consult gynecologist for internal examination and swab test.

Detailed Answer:
Hi,
Welcome to HealthcareMagic.
I am Dr Ramadevi Wani. I will be answering your concerns today.

What exactly you mean by vaginal infection ?
Do you have itching only or discharge too ? If it is itching only, then it can be due to other causes like vaginal atrophy, lichen sclerosis etc.

Have you had any vaginal swab culture sensitivity test done ?

Since the infection is persistent, it is important that you get this test done to find out if the culprit organism is candida albicans, non albicans candida or some other organism.

If it is non albicans candida or some other organism diflucan will not help. If it is candida albicans, since you have recurrent infection you need to discuss with your doctor and take Diflucan weekly for six months.

I hope this is helpful. If you have further concerns, I will be happy to answer.

Regards,
Dr Rama
