Question: hello, i have had lower back pain and the pain goes down the front of my left leg to my knee which has severe oain 1 to 10 it is a 10. this is from lifting some things heavy, first time ever had a problem like this.

The nature of your pain and the onset is typical for sciatica. What happens is that part of the tissue holding the back ones together slips forward and impinges on the nerves. This causes pain that travels to areas receiving these nerves.

For now, I recommend pain medications: Ibuprofen 400mg every 8hours and Tylenol 1000mg every 8hours. Applying cold packs and doing some mild stretching exercises would help. If these measures fail, then you will need to see your doctor for more potent pain medications. Steroid injections and surgery remain possible alternatives if your pain cannot be well controlled.
