Posted on Tue, 11 Oct 2016
Question: Hi, My friend is suffering from severe joint pain for almost more than two months. Once she wakeup the muscles seems to be tightend and unable to do any of her day to day activity. Swelling in eyelids has been observed and sometimes the eyes seems to be red especially in the corner. difficulty in breathing and swallow observed. Occasionally unknown fever.
We went to the doctor and based on his advise we took all the attached lab test. Since we were unable to reach our rheumatologist doctor till Tuesday we got stuck and unable to analyse the problem / emergency or not. You advise will be very much helpful for further diagnosis.

Brief Answer:
Autoimmune disease

Detailed Answer:
Good evening

Thank you for writing on health care magic

I have gone through your results, and it does look like she is heading towards an autoimmune problem..Something like Lupus/Dermatomyositis...

The symptoms of joint pains, rashes, eyelid swelling, muscle pains and stiffness do point towards it. But yes, since you have mentioned she has difficulty in breathing and swallowing, I wont recommend you wait till tuesday. In medical terms, you wont rate it as an emergency , but something which needs attention early. The difficulty in swallowing and breathing are due to the muscle involvement due to the disease, which require early treatment.

I would suggest you take her to ER and get her admitted and start the treatment. EArlier we start the treatment better the results are. Once we control the inflammation in the muscles and joints, we will see good results and less of muscle damage in the future .

She needs to be initiated with Steroids. Only thing I could not find in your blood test was the CPK and LDH levels which are specific for muscle disease.

DO let me know for more queries
