Brief Answer:
Need to wait for 48 hours

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for writing to us.
Based on the history and description you have given, your boy seems to suffer from acute respiratory infection.
Though usually viral, sometimes it can be bacterial too.
Only a proper clinical examination can identify the type of infection. Your doctor has rightly prescribed antibiotics and cold cough medicines.
Fever may take atleast 48 hours to show improvement. This happens usually as bacteria need repeated doses of antibiotics to kill them.
My suggestions
1. Follow your doctor advice and prescription. It is complete with appropriate dosage. Dont give additional doses just to bring down fever faster, to avoid side effects.
2. If no improvement in next 48 hours, get your boy reexamined to rule out ear or chest infection. Your doctor may order blood tests or xray if he feels necessary.

Ensure he drinks plenty of liquids to keep hydration intact.
If he becomes dull, poor intake and urine output, consult doctor immediately without delay.

Wishing your child good health.

Dr Arun
