Suggest Treatment For Persistent Heavy And Painful Periods

default
Posted on Tue, 23 Jun 2015
Question: I've had really heavy, long painful periods for over 2 yes now. I requested an ablation. My last provider decided that I needed to try all kinds of birth control first. I did. Nothing worked. Last resort was the Mirena. The first one was placed wrong. It poked out of my cervix causing bleeding for several months. She didn't tell me this until after she removed and replaced it with a new one. Now 9 months later my periods are two weeks long, just as heavy, and painful. 5 the days ago I passed a huge piece of tissue with the iud in it. Two days after I started bleeding through a pad an hour this has slowed down to a pad every 2 hrs with huge gobbs of tissue and serious pain. What should I do? Is this normal?

Brief Answer:
Pap smear and endometrial biopsy advised

Detailed Answer:
Hello mam, thanks for trusting health care magic.
I understand your health concern and the anxiety related to the same.
This is a serious issue and in my opinion will not be cured by hormones alone especially when even mirena got spontaneously expelled.
You need proper evaluation of your reproductive system in the form of Pap smear and endometrial biopsy.
In case you have had an ultrasound kindly upload the report so that I can advise you any additional evaluation in case needed.
If both these tests are clear then best option for you will be endometrial ablation at the earliest.
This problem in case persists for long now can give way to malignant changes or may cause severe anemia due to repeated heavy blood loss.
So get the above mentioned tests as soon as possible.
Regards
Dr Manisha.
