Question: I have had a headache for 2 weeks now ... unable to concentrate, throbbing pain in my left frontal
lobe and back of my head the ledge of my skull. Also have a very sore throat. Was diagnoised with
shingles a week ago and the outside has healed on my forehead and eye lid - left side however the nerves my PA says has no calmed down and she says thats part of my continued pain that continues.
She gave me Gabapentin 300 mg initially 2 a day and yesterday since I am continuing with so much pain in my head she told me to take 3 a day ........ Is this the right med to take and shouldnt head pain go away???????

Brief Answer:
Gabapentin is one of the drugs that may be used.

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thanks for using HealthcareMagic.

I have read your question and understand your concerns.

Yes, Gabapentin is one of the antineuralgic drugs that may be used to control pain caused by shingles.

Headaches should subside, but it needs time.

If Gabapentin alone does not control the pain, other drugs may be added.

These include Amitryptilin, painkillers such Ibuprofen, Opioids such Oxycodone etc.

Discuss with your Doctor about adding another drug to your current treatment, if you still feel no improvement.

Hope you found the answer helpful.

Kind regards.
