Suggest Treatment For Persistent Headaches

Posted on Mon, 27 Oct 2014
Question: Why does my head hurt all the time? Even when I lay on a very soft pillow, it feels like I am laying on a rock? It feels like it is burning inside and has lots of pressure and hurts so bad. I take Neurontin 300 mg twice a day and it helped at first but now it doesn't.

Brief Answer:
Under lying medical condition.

Detailed Answer:
Welcome to health care magic. I am Dr Ganesh.

1.The history and symptoms suggest the possible cause could be underlying medical conditions.

2.Since you already taken the neurontin / gaba for neuralgia and its not helpful - needs further investigation.

3.I would recommend to get an general checkup done, BP, cardiac assessment, glucose parameters, renal parameters.

4.Depending on the findings - treat the underlying conditions causing the symptoms.

5.Finally an MRI brain would help to evaluate the vascular and neurological conditions.

Good luck.
Hope i have answered your query,

I have already had a good general check-up and MRI of brain. BP is controlled and glucose is okay and heart okay. MRI showed normal except for signs of and "old stroke" that I didn't know I had. Doctor said the spot was calcified. It happened sometime over the past 7 years. I had a discectomy in the neck in 2003 and herniated disc repair in neck in 2013. I am having dizzy spells and involuntary jerking of my head and arm once in a while.

Brief Answer:
Two possibilities.

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for more history.

The signs of old stroke with calcifications suggest healed status and rarely such lesions cause present symptoms - however can not completely ruled out.

Most possible cause of the symptoms could be disc pathology, even though its treated / operated the nerve irritation in the cervical region may give such symptoms .
Sugget to get a followup scan to evaluate the present status - and some exercises recommended if there is any nerve / chord compression.

Hope it helps you.
Any thing to ask, please place the follow-up query.
Thank you.
