Question: I have been having this foot pain over a year and a half. I cant hardly wear shoe. On the top of the foot it is very painfully and swollen. I have been going to a podiatry for a while he gives me injections it help for a while and later the pain is back. I have had rays and MRI done. I am waiting to see an orthopedic doctor. When I get up in the morning it take me about four second to be able to walk straight because it hurt so bad. my reports states there are degenerate changes seen at the metatarsal region. There is also subchondral marrow edema seen at the metatarsal joints in the first and second digit. I have have also had 2 bunionectomy. I don't know what all this mean, all i know i am about to go go crazy with this foot pain. I will try to upload MRI report

Brief Answer:
Arthritis of your fore/midfoot

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Thanks for your question. I'm sorry to read about the pain you are having in your foot.

From what you describe it does sound as if you have arthritis in the joints in your mid/forefoot that is responsible for the swelling, pain and dysfunction you are experiencing.

Non-operative measures that might help with your symptoms include wearing a well fitting shoe with a comfortable accomodative foam, gel or sponge insert. Taking a regular anti-inflammatory medication. The applicaiton of heat and or cold treatments can also help with symptoms.

Operative interventions would involve fusing or removing the joints that are responsible for your pain. In the midfoot one would usually fuse the joints, in the forefoot removal of the joint or fusion depend on the location of the arthritic joint.

I hope this helps answer your question.

Best wishes
