Suggest Treatment For Persistent Fever And Cough

default
Posted on Wed, 18 Jan 2017
Question: I have had a fever of 99 to 101 for 4 days pretty typical flu then my fever went away for a day and a half now it's back and I'm short of breath and very tired and developing a cough. I went to the doctor Friday and was misdiagnosed with hfmd because I had fever blisters on the roof of my mouth. The last time I felt like this I had pneumonia. The doctors around here seem to be afraid to prescribe antibiotics until you're half dead. Should I go back in?

Brief Answer:
Needs Xray and antibiotics, acute bronchitis is a possibility

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to health care magic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible.

First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately. Based on the history you have shared, it can be an acute attack of upper airway infection and it can be viral but possibility of bacterial infection shouldn't be ruled out.

With the detail of symptoms as you have discussed, I would recommend to have a detailed chest examination and Xray chest to rule out lower respiratory tract infection like pneumonia but your symptoms relate more with acute bronchitis. It will need antibiotics course like azithromycin or augmentin as well as anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine.

Meanwhile OTC analgesics like acetaminophen should be used for symptomatic relief and temperature. Steam inhalations and XXXXXXX warm saline water gargles will be helpful.

Wishing you a speedy recovery. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
