Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cold Sore

default
Posted on Fri, 30 Dec 2016
Question: Hello. I had a cold sore about 5 months ago and it was not too severe of one. It was a little on my lip and also the lip line. While the cold sore went away quickly it left a scar (red spot where cold sore was). It took a long time to fade but finally has faded so it is hardly noticeable. I didn't use any scar creams. However I notice now that the weather is very cold the spot becomes darker red and noticeable until I am inside in the heat. Is there anything you recommend I do? Should I try to use a scar cream like vitamin E or mederma? Thanks

Brief Answer:
Tretinoin cream and sunscreen

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Thanks for being at healthcaremagic
I have gone through your history and if I was your treating doctor I would recommend you to use tretinoin 0.05 percent cream on the spot at night along with use broad spectrum sunscreen on the entire lips during the day time.
I don't think vitamin E or mederma will be effective.

Dr Asmeet
