Question: My 10 month old daughter had cold 3 days back and we were giving her saline drops and hot water steam. She was sneezing and mucus was coming out.

But from day before yesterday night onwards , she stopped sneezing and her nose was blocked and unable to sleep contineously.

We took to the peadiatrician yesterday and upon exmaminatin the doctor told that her lungs are clear and advised,

1. Sinarest 0.8 ml for 3 to 5 days
2. Hot water steam.
3. Saline drops
4. Karvol drops on her dress.

We started giving her from yesterday night.

My questions are:

1. Yesterday night she got up few times agian with blocked nose and coughs contineously for sometime holding her breath. No mucus coming out of her mouth. Is it ok to cough like that?

2. Will the above mentioned medicines also manage the cough she has?

3. Is there anything else we need yo do to relieve her from this?

Brief Answer:
Use nasal drops more frequently

Detailed Answer:
hi,
welcome to this forum.
Can understand your concerns point

initially while coughing mucus was coming but now during coughing no Mucus is coming suggest that your child is getting better. It take some time to cure cough problem in small babies.

since, the doctor has already examine the child yesterday and chest examination was normal, there is no need to worry. Medicines given are correct, but if cough persist then antibiotic like cefixime should be given. Also an X rays chest should be done to look for any Pathology in lungs.

nasal block is a very common problem in children, saline drops are most commonly used to relieve nasal block. since all the pores are small in children, problem of nasal block is very common in babies. As the child grows the problem of nasal block decreases.

Use nasal drops at night so that problem of nasal block decreases. Continue same medicines. If symptoms persist, then re examination should be done as the baby is very small.

I hope this will help you. Wishing your child good health. take care.
