Suggest Treatment For Persistent Cold And Sore Throat

Question: My son had a cold and sore thoat for a few days the cold went away but his thoat hurts when he swallows
and he has a a cough both for almost 2 weeks now nothing is swollen and he doesn't have strep I am going to call a ear nose throat doc. do you have any sugestions


there are no visible signs in his mouth so what could it be

First of all, it is sad to know what your son had been experiencing lately. Based on the history you have shared, it seems as if he is suffering from an acute attack of upper airway infection which can be pharyngitis or of throat or tonsils weren't inflammed then tonsillitis is ruled out. Their are many other causative bugs even if strep swab is negative.

He may need to have a course of antibiotics like augmentin or azithromycin alongwith anti histamines like cetrizine or loratidine. OTC analgesics or anti inflammatory drugs like acetaminophen will also help with pain and swelling.

Saline water gargles may be continued in between and cold drinks and greasy oily foods should be avoided.
