Question: My 16 year old child has pathological myopia and has started taking Prozac and Abilify. Since starting the Prozac, she has developed eye tics. Is this an indication that she should discontinue the Prozac because it may be adversely affecting her Pathological myopia?

Brief Answer:
It is not necessary/please visit her eye physician

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using healthcaremagic.

It is not necessary to stop Prozac following abnormal twitching of eye lids. This is the uncommon side effect which disappears spontaneously in due course of time.

The one of rare side effect of Prozac is blindness and that need to be taken care off. Please visit her treating ophthalmologist for repeat assessment of her vision. If her visual acuity is declined after starting prozac it is recommended to stop it immediately.
It is also recommended to assess the color vision of your child. The yellow- blue color blindness is another rare side effect and this need to be decided by your ophthalmologist.

To conclude it is advisable to see your eye physician for assessment of both color vision and visual acuity before making decision to stop Prozac.

I hope this answers your question. If you have more questions feel free to write back to me. I will be glad to help you.
Thanks and regards
Dr Ashok Kumar
