Suggest Treatment For Painful Swollen Lymph Nodes In Jaw, Neck And Groin Area

Question: I have stage IV endometriosis. I've had 4 laparoscopies since 1999. My symptoms have always followed the typical endometriosis symptoms. Over the last 4-6 months I have had some changes. My periods have become very heavy and full of big clots. At the end of my period, for the last 4 months, I have swollen lymph nodes under my jaw, in my neck, groin and arms. That are very tender about 7-10 days after my period. Then I start to have a light period for 3 days followed by severe cramping. Only to have the whole process happen again 3 weeks later. I'm having severe leg pain, nausea, low grade fevers 101.1 and night sweats where I'm having to change my clothes and lay down towels. I'm also have very embarrassing issues with urinary incontinece. Right before my period I can not urinate. I feel like I have to but I only slightly dribble. While on my period I get horrible lower back pain when urinating. It actually can make me scream! After my period I'm starting to use Kotex just for urinary incontinece issues.

Right now my lymph nodes hurt so terribly in my neck, jaw, groin and arm I feel like crying.

Is all this normal advances endometriosis symptoms?

Thanks for writing to us.

Though you have had endometriosis for so long, your current symptoms do not seem related. I would ask you to see a general physician for a proper evaluation. A check up by a gynecologist also is needed to exclude endometritis and involvement of the urinary tract.

You would need a complete blood picture, sonogram of the abdomen and pelvis, endometrial scrapings for biopsy and culture/sensitivity, temperature charting, urinalysis and biopsy of the lymph nodes if suggested. It remains to be seen if the symptoms have a cyclical appearance and related to your menstrual calendar or not.
