Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling On The Toe Of A Child

default
Posted on Mon, 1 Aug 2016
Question: Over the past two days my baby toe on my right foot started to be very painful. Now it is swollen and I can barely stand on it. I also noticed today that my ankle is also swollen. I don't recall stubbing it or bumping it but I did jump from a boat deck about 3 ft high a couple of times this past weekend. I have had an ongoing issue with athletes foot between that toe and at times it does crack and can feel painful but nothing like this. Thanks

Brief Answer:
Can be a stress fracture.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The pain and swelling in the area can be due to a hematoma formation or a stress fracture due to jumping. This needs an X-ray to find out the cause. Since there is no history of a soft tissue injury, an inflammation of the joint also needs to be ruled out. You need to give rest to your foot, keep it elevated on two pillows while resting.
Avoid all painful movements and take a mild pain killer after the meals. Do consult an orthopedician for a direct examination and further management.
I hope this answers your query.

Is the swelling in my ankle due to the toe. The main focus of the pain is in my baby toe, but I was thinking maybe I have an infection since i feel some warmth around the foot area and it came on so suddenly. Sorry to ask so so questions

Brief Answer:
Can be an infection.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
The swelling of the ankle can be due to toe or due to remaining on your feet for long. Feeling of warmth in the area is suggestive of an infection. Proper oral antibiotics are needed to control the infection.
Hope my answer is helpful.
