default
Posted on Sat, 4 Feb 2017
Question: I have pain & swelling in the gum of my last tooth , lower jaw-left side. Since there were some issues with the website, I was not able to get in touch with you.To relieve the pain I took Mobizox(pain reliever) and applied Difflam mouth gel yesterday. The pain and swelling have come down. I have stopped taking pain reliever, but continuing with mouth gel.
However, since the problem is still persisting please advice further course of action.

Brief Answer:
Looks like Pericoronitis..

Detailed Answer:
Hi..
Thanks for writing to us..

As per your query it looks like there is infection and inflammation of the gum flap over the last tooth leading to a condition known as Pericoronitis..

It commonly occurs when the gum flap is overlapping over the tooth and there is food debris accumulation in that area causing bacterial overgrowth and infection..

As the pain and swelling has reduced, it is a good sign, so I would suggest you to first of all follow certain home remedies for relief..
You should start doing warm saline gargles 2 to 3 times a day..
Gargle with antiseptic mouthwash solution 2-3 times a day..
Do not let any food accumulate in that area..
In case if there is pain you can take Paracetamol or Ibuprofen..
Continue applying Difflam gel..

In case if after following these remedies for 3-4 days the symptoms still persists then you should consult a Dentist and get evaluated and he can advise you a course of antibiotics to reduce infection along with painkillers..
He will also irrigate the area with hydrogen peroxide and antiseptic solution like betadine..

Hope you get well soon..

Please write back or more queries..

Regards.
