Suggest Treatment For Painful Swelling And Redness In Little Toe

default
Posted on Sat, 9 May 2015
Question: I was perfectly normal about 15 minutes ago. When I stood up I could feel a slight pain in the bottom of my foot next to the little toe. When I looked closer I noticed a little swelling and a spot turning black. I assume a blood vessel burst? Anything I should be worried about?

A photo of the spot &following info are needed

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I understand your concern.
Can you please provide a picture of the black spot on your toe? So, I can give a more specific answer.

Do you remember to have had any accident recently : hitting to any object? twisting your feet suddenly?

Looking forward to have the requested picture and information in.

I cannot get my photo to upload from phone. The spot is below the little toe kinda on the side of the foot and to the bottom. It doesn't hurt but is a little swollen and looks like a bruise. I had no injuries to the foot. Sat at a desk the majority of the day.
Got the photo of the spot on my foot. Sent it to you.

Detailed Answer:
Hi back my dear,

I've just received your photo. I have noted the swelling (edema) and redness.

If you do not remember any history of trauma recently or twisting your leg, then, this swelling and redness might be because of:
- you've been walking around a lot and using non-comfortable shoes
- arthritis

I advise to :
- continue applying cold compresses locally
- apply anti-inflammatory cream at bedtime
- take acetaminophen or ibuprofen to reduce such inflammation

If no improvement within a few days, further evaluation by rheumatologist and X-ray of the are is recommended then.

Wish fast recovery!
