Question: I have had fibromyalgia/myofascial pain for 47years. I am also an insulin dependent diabetic. Have had quadruple by-pass surgery and 2 Fem pop by-pass grafts to both legs. especially when I lay down, my scalp is painful and burns, as well as generalized burning and piercing pain over varying surfaces. What may be possible causes and which medical specialty should I contact?

Brief Answer:
Consult a Neurologist.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, I had gone through your question and understand your concerns.

Pain and burning of scalp most probably are related to neuropathy.

Neuropathy may have several causes, these include diabetic neuropathy, side effects from certain medicaments, toxic effects of chemicals ( heavy metals).

Another cause may be compression nerve syndrome ( occipital neuralgia from occipital nerves compression and resulting pain in scalp areas supplied by these nerves).

In my opinion you need to consult a Neurologist and discuss your concerns and above mentioned possibilities of your symptoms.

Hope this helps. If you have further questions feel free to ask.
