Brief Answer: Regular exercises and weight control is the key Detailed Answer: Hi Thanks for writing your query. After going through your problem, it seems you have early signs of arthritis. My suggestion for you would be- 1. Keep your body weight as per your height 2. Regular exercises 3. Eat healthy food As far as exercises for knee is concern, simple knee bending and straightening can be done while sitting on chair and hold the leg for few seconds. You may increase the duration of leg holding on weekly basis. This can be done easily anywhere like watching Television or at work place. Try to avoid sitting on floor in cross leg or squat position for long duration. You can have nutrition supplements for joints like Glucosamine (neutralite), they also help. If required pain killer on SOS basis. Having said that I shall be glad if you can share your knee x ray, status of other joint's and blood test report for serum uric acid, RA factor and Blood sugar level in the follow up query Take care and wish you Healthy knees.

Hi Doc, Is this RA genetic and what cause this RA? I also notices that there is few knots on my knee and I massage it, is it ok? Is it because my job since I am on my feet 8 hours a day? Also you suggested to take glucosamine as a supplement, my questions are which one, there are so many type of glucosamine such as glucosamine XXXXXXX Glucosamine Chondroitin, glucosamine MSM, etc and how much is the dose? 2000mg, 2500mg, etc? Can I used walking, jumping on trampoline, bike riding or swimming as part of my exercises and isn't make my knees work harder and having more pain? Is there any foods that I need to stay away from? Is there any foods that I need to consume more than others? Thank you again for your help.

Brief Answer: Avoid jogging on hard concrete surface Detailed Answer: Hi It’s good to see you again. RA or rheumatoid arthritis has genetic predisposition and its autoimmune disorder. The knot’s could be lipoma or deposition of fat and has nothing to do with your job. You can carry on with the gentle massage. The recommended dose of glucosamine sulphate (1500mg) and chondroitin sulphate (800-1200mg) daily in divides doses. Glucosamine by nutralite is a good brand and with balanced composition. This is usually given for 3 months and then 6 months off after there is symptomatic improvement. This is not a pain killer so additional medicines are required for pain control and optimum joint activity. Regarding exercise avoid jumping/jogging on hard concrete surface, swimming is the best exercise. Avoid food which is rich in sugar, oil to control body weight and eat food (whole grain, fruit and vegetable) which are rich in fiber. I hope this information suffices.
