Suggest Treatment For Pain In The Ear After Injury

default
Posted on Tue, 17 Jan 2017
Question: I was a victim of an assault succeeded by a battery. I was hit twice, once on between the mouth and my right cheek and once above my left eye/on my left eyebrow. I suffered a small bruise above my lips and bleeding inside my mouth because I bit my cheek from impact I believe, or just knocked my teeth. I suffered no symptoms just sheer shock. I do have a dull ache in my right ear feeling like its from the inner ear and related to the jaw joint, and also a dull ache in my right jaw when I eat and open and close it. Sometimes its a sharp pain but mostly a dull ache that comes and goes. I have a lot of health related anxiety as well as suffering from generalised anxiety disorder. I'm a morbidly curious individual and I've been looking up things online.

Brief Answer:
Take paracetamol or acetaminophen.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthcareMagic.

I have gone carefully through your query and understand your concerns. I would insist you to report the assault and battery to appropriate authorities. You need to get a medical examination done and get a report for the same. If you ignore such episodes, the propensity of such episodes being repeated simply increases.

As regards the dull ache, I would insist you to take paracetamol or acetaminophen. You can be benefited by using hot compress. A clinical examination will help in evaluating if you need any additional interventions.

I would insist you not to panic. Discuss with your treating physician if you would benefit from taking anxiolytics like alprazolam for your generalised anxiety disorder.

Let me know if I could help further.

From having no experience with the police, or in any regard, to crime I admit it was not easy to contact them, I did however immediately after the events. They were excellent and have been made fully aware.

I did visit my local GP service only for examination of my jaw and ears as that was the source of pain at the time. I was lucky to be able to see them before Christmas as it gets busy, but they did not seemed concerned and prescribed me with the mild painkillers you suggests, the ache comes and goes and I only really notice it when trying to sleep or when my mind is not occupied as it were. My GP told me it was likely I had a bruise on my jaw (I guess the muscle) and it could take a few days to a few weeks to heal but everything is fine.

I have recently been, since contacting a doctor on here, been experiencing mild headaches and I cannot help researching ideas and it get me worried and I do panic from having general anxiety. But I assume with the events occupying my mind and the worry and the stress as well as it being the holiday season I assume its a stress-related issue.

So, I reckon, it is me coming to terms with this psychologically which is difficult.

Thank you for your answer, you very much helped me, if you could offer any more guidance it would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

P.S I do not quite understand you terms of 'medical examination' and 'episodes'. Is a medical examination a doctor checking you for any signs/symptoms of anything, as in routine, or are you mentioning a more involved rigorous check up? Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Injury report needed for medicolegal purposes.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back. Let me deeply apologize for not being able to respond promptly.

It is good to know that the police has been made aware and that your GP has been consulted. However, it is important to obtain an injury report for medicolegal purposes. That was the reason I asked for a medical examination.

Once again I would insist you not to panic. Discuss with your treating physician if you would benefit from taking anxiolytics like alprazolam for your generalised anxiety disorder. They may help you to cope better with the situation.

Let me know if I could help further. Make sure to specify your queries, if any.

Thank you so much for your responses.

Its almost a fortnight since the incident and at the moment I'm really struggling to 'get over' it. I'm in denial and I just can't believe it happened to me, time and place, and I'm in knowledge is isn't isolated incident in the area which did XXXXXXX me. I'm struggling to enjoy things I normally enjoy doing but I guess its the post-trauma and the fact I have time to be in my own thoughts. I usually am able to work out the source of my anxiety and fight it with willpower alone and just doing it.

Anyway, specifically I would like to know about head trauma because I keep having compulsion thoughts and its common for me to live in irrationality with myself, extremely so with health. I'm worried if there is a slow forming epidural/subdural hematoma forming because I have very mild headaches but in all honesty it is most definitely my anxieties and worries causing headaches. I have discussed with family constantly and they inform me like yourself not to panic there isn't anything wrong. My physical injuries were very insignificant and have long since faded. But I'm worried the trauma will last months. I'm scared to visit the GP again but I would like to think about medication. Again anyway specifically could you clarify my incident to that of types of head injuries and bring peace of mind, and that I don't try to do medical research online as I wouldn't understand and need an expert. Apologies for the elaborate message, its the way I write. I think I will get better emotionally.

Regards

Very sorry for a follow up to an already elaborate message. I understand that going to the GP again would be a better idea in addition to our discussions. And even though you are a very well-established expert and have helped me tremendously it is online and I have to keep that in mind.

In relation to my queries on head trauma, I was impacted on the cheek and above the eye but not the forehead, so still the face really. And is problems with the jaw and jaw pain related to headaches and pain in the back, neck and ears? Pain is occurring there and very infrequently leading me to worry all sorts.

I'm a science student, no medical knowledge. I need expertise because I cannot trust my own medical judgement obviously and what I read about.

Thanks so much, hope you can gauge what I'm trying to ask.

Brief Answer:
You need to relax.

Detailed Answer:
Thanks for writing back and for clarifying. I did not know that a fortnight has already elapsed and it is no use getting an injury report made after such a long delay. Indeed you need to get over the incident. Visiting a psychologist would be a good idea. He would be able to give you some simple tips which would help you relax and better cope with the situations. Psychotherapy and cognitive behavioral therapy may also help cope better with the present situation post trauma.

You do not need to have medical knowledge. Being a student of science you possibly have what is known as scientific or logical thinking. That is a big positive. The facts can be accumulated but I am pretty sure that rather than collecting and correlating facts, it is more important to let go and relax. Surely you can do the math at a later date after you have gotten over it.

As regards head injury, the warning signs are
* Severe headache (mild is acceptable)
* Vomiting
* Loss of consciousness or altered consciousness
* Seizured
Unless you have had these, you need not worry.
