default
Posted on Tue, 21 Oct 2014
Question: yes I have a nagging pain in my lower back that i treated with ice but the inflammatory pill makes it go away as well. It's been about two weeks now and it was ever since I moved some furniture around. The hardest part of the pain comes when I reach dow and tie my shoes laces while my foot is on the chair. Its excruciating pain. when I take the inflammatory pill it subsides. Is this a part of sciatica or something else?

Brief Answer:
Due to back muscle strain. Not sciatica.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
Back muscle strain is one of the MOST common causes of acute to severe lower back pain. Lifting a heavy object, twisting, or a sudden movement can cause muscles or ligaments stretch or develop microscopic tears.
For pain and spasm to go you have to do back exercises to relive the spasm associated with this. Doing hot fomentation and applying muscle relaxant gel will also be helpful in relieving the spasm.
Correct your posture while sitting. Take frequent breaks during your work.
Lie on hard bed. Avoid forward bending and lifting heavy weight.
You can take anti inflammatory drug like ibuprofen to relieve pain.
Ideally, you need to visit a physiotherapist for a couple of sessions and also take any good muscle relaxant drug along with application of topical local analgesic spray/ointment for relief.
If the pain persists, I would strongly recommend you to visit an orthopedic surgeon.

I hope this answers your query.

when I take the anti inflammatory pill I feel brand new and am able to use the elliptical machine for 20 minutes and then walk on the treadmill machine for 20 minutes. These exercise are crucial for me as Im mostly sitting sedentary for most of the day. Is it okay to continue these exercises?

Brief Answer:
Yes you can use these.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
You can continue doing the exercises that you routinely do if it does not add to your pain and spasm. Doing a hot fomentation twice a day will help.
Hope my answer is helpful.
