Suggest Treatment For Pain In Groin Area

default
Posted on Mon, 9 Nov 2015
Question: My inner V where my thigh meets my crotch area is hurting so badly that I have to use a walker. Everyone, even my PCP says I have pulled some kind of muscle. They say it is a groin muscle pull. This has been going on for almost a full week. How long does that take to start healing? Could it be something else? I can't walk at all without the walker and it so painful all of the time. It does let up some when I'm lying back in my recliner. Thank You,

Brief Answer:
Hot water fomentation will be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Hi
Welcome to Healthcare-Magic
Greetings of the day

Dear Ms

Any kind of exercise during episode of pain is not advisable as it will make the matter worse. If there is no or very minimal swelling at site, No discolouration of overlying skin and no weakness in lower limb then there is no cause for concern. It is likely to be adductor muscle spasm.

I would suggest you the following

1. Hot water fomentation: either by using hot water bag or cloth soaked in hot water and intermittently applied for 5- 10 minutes 3-4 times a day will be very helpful in relieving muscle spasm

2. Analgesic like Ibuprofen along with skeletal muscle relaxant like Chlorzoxazone will be helpful in relieving pain and spasm

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you

Hi Dr. XXXXXXX ..now I am really worried that it is something else more serious. I have had it now for a full week. I cannot stand on that leg and must use a walker. My husband said when he had a groin muscle pull, it lasted for 2 weeks or more. It aches pretty much all of the time even with pain medication. I cannot take nsaids, so I rely on actual pain meds. They only dull the ache. Do you think I need to get a CT scan, MRI, Ultra sound, etc? I absolutely cannot stand very long and today is the first day I have taken a shower because I could not keep my balance. My husband brought in the bathtub chair and I was able to clean myself. I am very concerned that you thought this would go away in only one day. Please explain why you thought that.

With Regards, XXXXXXX XXXX

Brief Answer:
Assessment by your physician will be helpful

Detailed Answer:
Dear Ms

As you had already been assessed by your Physician and he is of opinion that its muscle spasm, which usually responds to rest and adequate therapy in 1-2 days

As you have persistent pain , follow up with your physician is advisable. Age related OsteoArthritis could also contribute to it . Exact diagnosis will however depend on thorough clinical examination.

Do get back to me if you need any further assistance, will be glad to assist you.
