Question: My elder son xxxxxxx XXXXXXX aged 13 have Oppositional Defiant Disorder as identified by doctor. I need support to cure him.

Hi....I understand your concern. As you say that oppositional defiant disorder is already diagnosed in your son I put forward these suggestions -

1. Sometimes attention deficit hyperactivity disorder can coexist as a comorbid condition in this problem, we need to find out if it is so. then it's required treatment for attention deficit hyperactivity disorder also, along with treatment for the primary problem.

2. As parents of the kid the clinical psychologist will first train you how to behave with your kid. This is called PMT - parent management training.

3. Sometimes stimulant drugs like Guanfacine can help in this problem, if there is a comorbid or associated attention deficit hyperactivity.

4. Learning more effective parenting skills is a very crucial part of treatment plan of oppositional defiant disorder.
