Posted on Mon, 5 Dec 2016
Question: I have panic attack and anxiety for about half of a year. I didn't take any medicine except some Vitamins and Gamma Oryzanol. About one week ago, I felt like I lost all of my feelings. I can feel hot and cold, and if someone pinch me, I can feel painful. But l lost feelings of fullness and hungry. I can feel a little hungry when I was extremely hungry and feel a little tired when I was extremely tired. When I have panic attack, I lose the feelings I used to have, I can only feel my heart beats quickly. Silence in my brain. I don't know what is wrong. I m so worry about it. Is it common or not have this feeling. It feels like my brain is blind now. Lose all the feedback from my body. Thank you very much.

Brief Answer:
Numbness is common with anxiety/panic attacks

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

First of all I like to inform you that abnormal experience that you are subjected for last couple of weeks is part of anxiety and probably nothing different. In medical language it is covered under the umbrella term numbness. Although it is part of anxiety disorder but it does not mean it is normal. It occurs commonly among the individuals with heightened anxiety and responds well to medications.

In case of poor treatment, as in your case, there is high possibility of persisting psychic pain and somatic symptoms in near future.

I hope this helps you.
If you have any further query, I would be glad to help you.
If not, you may close the discussion and if possible you may rate the answer for my future patients.

Numbness here means no feeling?I lose the feedback whether my body is in tention and anxiety or in comfort, which make me scared. I can only tell that I have experienced nervious and anxiety from the little feeling of heaviness of my body afterwards. So it is pretty common?
By the way,my doctor give me some Paxil. I m a student and will have final exams in half a month. I am afraid that I will feel too sleepy to study after I take the medicine.
Thank you so much for answering me!

Brief Answer:
Paxil to be taken at bedtime

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for reverting back to me.

I endorse prescription of paxil for your current problem as it is quite effective and likely to help you in short as well as long run. Your fear of feeling sleepy is genuine concern but I like to inform you that the particular side effect is not so common and you can continue your study despite use of medication. I am of the opinion that medication will help you in tour study.

I understand that numbness have different literal meanings but we need not go to the myriad of terms and need to understand that it is part of anxiety and will respond with anti anxiety medication.

I hope this helps you further.
Thanks and regards.
