Suggest Treatment For Non-healing Ulcers In The Esophagus And Stomach

Question: I've been on this site before a couple of years ago . I uploaded medical records then on ulcers in my esphogas and stomach. They never healed even on double doses of several meds. I recently had a bravo capsule, motility studies, another scope. I had severe reflux ph was 65-124. Hypertensive esphagus. I had a gastric plication surgery in mexico 5 years ago. Dr was not sure if it can be done. If not a Roux en y.I also have severe pain on my right side . It burns and goes through to my back. Everyone says their not sure what causes it. I had my gallbladder out many years ago but its in the same location. I wanted to have the roux en y because I'd never have to worry about acid again and hopefully that operation would take care of it. The surgeon won't do it because my bmi isnt high enough. He will only do it is the nissan cant be done. I talked to him several times but he wont change his mind. I'm worried I'll still be in pain on the right after.
I went ahead with the surgery. A Nissan Fundplication was done. He un did the gastric plication i had done in mexico 5 years ago for weight loss. He said the tissue looked healthy enough to wrap around the esophogus. This is my third day post op I've only had liquids and yogurt. I tried a small amount of mashed potatoes and had severe chest pain and stabbing pain in my throat. Is that normal? In the hospital they told me I'd have no problem eating any thing but steak and bread after a few days after. I'm going back to liquids and yogurt. I'm also having stabbing pains in my left upper side, This must be where they un did the gastric plication . I feels like something tight is pulling open. I does not feel like gas. Do you think there's a problem with the NF and that's why I'm is so much pain? I'm worried because this was expertimental surgery. The doctor never has un done a plication and use that tissue to do a NF. The other surgeon I was seeing was very concerned it would fail but he didn't know how to do it laproscopic so he sent me to this surgeon who is suppose to be more experienced.

Brief Answer:
Surgeon must be well trained/experienced. Follow his advise...

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query and an elucidate history .
Read your history fully and carefully and understood your concerns.
To recapitulate: Female/59 - non-healing ulcers in esophagus and stomach - investigated - reflux - gastric plication 5 years ago - pain on right side - burns and goes through to the back - cholecystectomy - the pain is in the same location - Surgeon would not do Roux en-Y because the BMI wan not high enough - Nissan Fundoplication done - after gastric plication was undone - 3rd day post-op - on liquids and yogurt - small amount of mashed potato caused severe chest pain and stabbing pain in the throat - stabbing pain on the left side also - something tight is pulling open -

To answer your specific questions are as follows:
- I tried a small amount of mashed potatoes and had severe chest pain and stabbing pain in my throat. Is that normal?
> This is not normal. The esophagitis will not get reversed so soon. It is possible that mashed potatoes are not suitable at the moment for the esophagus. Continue taking the things that suit well.

- Do you think there's a problem with the NF and that's why I'm in so much pain?
> There may not be a problem with NF as this is too early to say as you can tolerate liquids and yogurt.

- Pain on the left side
> Stomach and intestines are painless and they can not cause pain unless stretched or so. It is possible that the part that was stuck at the peritoneum must have been separated and peritoneal surface must have been causing the pain or the ports that might have been placed in that position. Of course there are other rare causes such as hematoma formation and so on.

-worried because this was experimental surgery. The doctor never has un-done a plication and use that tissue to do a NF
> The Surgeon who did your surgery must have been well trained in such a surgery as an un-experienced Surgeon would not have touched the case. This is technically a difficult surgery.
So do not worry. I am sure the Surgeon is well experienced one and will guide you thoroughly.

I hope this answer helps you, please feel free to ask for further relevant queries
