Question: Hi I've had shingles now for about two weeks and was given at the emergency room valacyclovir HCL500 mg and tramadol- acetaminophn375-325 but I'm still have lots of nerve pain although the rash has dryed up and are now scabby they atill itch and my skin hurts and I have a numb sensation all on my lower back I also finished the medication and don't know what to do now. I called the # the emergency room gave me to see a primary doctor but no one has called me back after they said they would in twoo days it is now a week later desperately XXXXXXX

Detailed Answer:
Hi in the begginning of the problem the steroid are supposed to help. Uou can start tsking 16 mg of prednisolone daily morning and reduce it to 8 mg after 1week n then keep reducing it by half every5th day. It shall reduce the pain severety and duration.
