Suggest Treatment For Nematode Infection

Question: My husband had, what looked like a boil on his hand, convinced that it was a sliver that he could not get out (it had been there for several weeks).
I punctured it with a sterilized needle and lots of fluid came out; a thick clear substance. As he continued to press on it an inch of thread-like goo came out. What is it and what should we do at this point?

Brief Answer:
Possibility of nematode worm infestation

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

Welcome and thanks for posting your query to the forum.

I can understand your concern for your husband's skin problem. After reading your query with diligence and analyzing with best of my clinical acumen I can make out that your husband might have the problem of worm manifestation.

My diagnosis is based on the fact that a there was a boil like thing on the hand and thread like thing came out of it. This kind of appearance is typically seen in "Nematode" infection.

Most commonly the typical of thread like feature you have enumerated is present either in "Mansonella streptocerca" or in "Onchocerca volvulus".

I suggest you to meet your primary care physician immediately and give all the details along with my probable diagnosis. Also if you have that thread like thing then preserve it in saline water for the microscopical examination of the specimen.

In your husband's like cases there are certain blood and serological tests to diagnose the exact entity. The main medication for the same is "Diethylcarbamazine" which is anti-helmithic drug.

I hope these information will help you. I will be glad to help for any further queries.
